Our bereavement services are designed to assist adults and children who are grieving the loss of a loved one, no matter when the death occurred. All services are free.     Adult Grief Support Groups ~ all programs are free.


    Grieving Parents Support Group: Meets Tuesdays 5:00-6:30pm  Yearly, Fall and Spring
    Pre-Registration is Required Call 626-1779

    Adult Grief Support Day Group: Meets for eight weeks during the Fall and Spring at MaineGeneral in Augusta, and includes an educational element as well as support. Pre-registration and a telephone interview are required prior to group attendance. Eight-week sessions are held throughout the year.

    Open  Grief Group which meets 5:30-7 p.m. at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Pre-registration is required. Call 626-1779 to pre-register and to arrange a telephone interview. On going Year round.

    Support After Suicide Group: This group is offered to those whose loved one has completed suicide. Sharing your grief experience with others often leads to healing and recovery. A support group is a safe place to share your feelings about your personal loss.  Pre-registration and a telephone interview are necessary prior to group participation. Call 626-1779. Next session starts in the Spring

    Self-help Correspondence Program: is a series of letters, readings, and exercises designed to assist the bereaved through the process of grieving. These are mailed to the home of the primary caregiver of a hospice patient or anyone in the community who requests them, seven times during the first year following the death.

    Phone support: a bereavement volunteer makes regular contact by telephone with those bereaved who wish this service.

    One-on-one: Hospice and bereavement volunteers are available for limited one-on-one support. The goal of these volunteers is to prepare the bereaved for group support.

    Please ask about our bereavement support for children and teens.

    Grieving Children and Teen Program: Support groups for children and teens, 3 - 18 years of age and their parents/caregivers. Children are taught through music, art, dance, and writing to express their feelings about the death and to share the experiences with peers in their group. Each group is facilitated by trained volunteers who assure a "safe" and confidential environment for the children and teens. Parents/caregivers attend with children 12 years and under. These adults meet in their own groups. Pre-registration and a personal interview are required prior to group participation please call 626-1779. Participation is FREE. On going year round.

    Camps: Contact Hospice Volunteers of the Waterville Area at 873-3615.

    Lending Library:
    Resources, including a lending library of books, publications and video tapes on topics pertaining to grief and loss, death and dying, cancer and children, are available for public use.

    Equipment Loan Program:
    Available home care items, including electric beds, walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, and tub seats available to hospice patients.
